FortisBC is offering rebates to upgrade your furnace to a dual fuel system with a central heat pump:

Dual fuel system: up to $10,000​​

Northern top-up: up to $3,000​

Two-upgrade bonus: $300​

Connected thermostat: $150
The rebate will be available for invoices dated on or after July 1, 2024. See below for eligibility details and information about the Greener Homes Loan.
Eligibility Requirements
​Home requirements:
​

Must have a residential FortisBC natural gas account
-
Must be a single-family, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse or mobile home on a permanent foundation.

Must be a primary residence and at least 1 year old.

Must have an existing gas furnace, at least 10 years old.

Invoice Requirements
​

Invoices must be dated on or after July 1, 2024
-
Applications must be submitted within six months of the paid invoice date.

Rebates cannot exceed the paid cost on the invoice.

​New System requirements
​
-
Must be a new central ducted air source heat pump integrated with a new high efficiency gas furnace.

Must be listed as an eligible system on the rebate eligible product list. The system must be compatible, with a combined AHRI number.

A connected thermostat must be installed by a licensed contractor at the same time as the new eligible dual fuel system and the switch-over temperature must be set to:

≤5°C for Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island

≤2°C for Southern Interior and Northern B.C.

Contractor Requirements
​

System must be installed by a licenced and registered gas contractor.
-
Must undergo commissioning and a copy of the completed commissioning sheet must be made available upon request.

Must be sized to ensure the heat pump component has the capacity to meet the home’s heat demand at the switch-over temperature.

A program-approved heat load calculation is required to properly size the system. Rule of thumb equipment sizing will not be accepted.

Warranty replacements and insurance claims are not eligible.
Questions
Does my existing system affect my rebate?

Yes, your existing heating system must have a gas furnace that is at least 10 years old.
​​
Are there requirements for choosing a contractor?
​
Yes, your gas contractor must be licensed by Technical Safety BC and registered with the Home Performance Contractor Network.

Is there any financing available?
​
The federal government is offering an interest-free loan of up to $40,000 for renovations through the Greener Homes Loan program. This offer can be combined with CleanBC's Better Homes Energy Savings Program.

Greener Homes Loan
Interest-free loans of up to $40,000 are available from the Government of Canada to help homeowners pay for the cost of renovations.
The Canada Greener Homes Loan works alongside the existing provincial rebate programs.

With a 10 year, interest-free repayment term, homeowners may opt in to the loan when pursuing retrofits like insulation, heat pumps, solar panels, and more.
​
Energy advisors play a key part in the delivery of the loan.
Booking an energy evaluation is a requirement to qualify for the loan.
